1. Who we are

doon.guru and the Doon GURU apps for Android and Windows (together, the Service) are run by Doon Guru, based in Dehradun, Uttarakhand 248003, India ("we", "us"). Contact: hello@doon.guru.

2. Agreeing to these Terms

  • By creating an account, signing in, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, the Refund and Cancellation Policy and the Disclaimer, all published at doon.guru. Together these form the agreement between you and us.
  • Children. The Service is for school students. If you are under 18, you may use it only with the consent of your parent or lawful guardian. Your parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on your behalf, is responsible for your use of the Service, and makes any purchase. Paying for a subscription with a parent's or guardian's payment method also confirms their consent.
  • If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

3. Your account

  • Give true and complete details (including the student's real name and class) and keep them up to date.
  • One account is for one student. Do not share your account, password or sign-in with anyone, and do not sell or transfer it. You are responsible for everything done through your account.
  • To protect the Service, one account can be signed in on a limited number of devices and browsers at the same time (currently two). Signing in on another device may sign you out elsewhere or replace an older device.
  • The apps may check, through Google Play or Microsoft, that the app is genuine and unmodified and that the device is not tampered with. Some features, such as quizzes, may not work on rooted, emulated or modified devices or apps.
  • Tell us at once at hello@doon.guru if you think someone else is using your account.

4. The Service

  • The Service offers practice questions, daily question sets, quizzes, scores and progress information for school subjects and general knowledge.
  • Quizzes are taken in the Doon GURU apps, signed in to your own account (we may also open them on the website). Some can be taken only once a day, and daily sets change every day. These limits are part of the Service.
  • We may add, change, improve or remove courses, questions, features and limits at any time, for example to update the syllabus, fix errors or prevent misuse. If we permanently withdraw a course that you have paid for, you will not be charged for it again.
  • We aim to keep the Service available but do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. It is normally unavailable for a few minutes each night (around 03:30 IST) for maintenance and backups, and may also be unavailable at other times for maintenance, upgrades or reasons outside our control.

5. Subscriptions and payments

  • Prices are shown in Indian rupees (₹) and include applicable taxes (GST). The price, billing period and any first-month offer are shown before you pay.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (for example, every month) and are charged until you cancel, or until the number of renewals shown at purchase is reached.
  • First-month offers apply only to a student's first subscription to that course, once. After the first month, the normal price applies.
  • Free trials. Where a subject course shows a 7-day free trial, each person may take free trials in at most two different courses in total, whether bought in the Android app or on the website. Class bundles (all subjects of a class) have no free trial. A trial counts once it has started, even if you cancel it. A free trial beyond this limit does not start: on Google Play it is cancelled straight away and nothing is charged. Opening extra accounts or using other people's accounts or devices to get more trials is misuse (section 6).
  • Free daily quizzes. Every signed-in student gets 5 free questions a day in every subject of the class shown on their profile (one short quiz per subject), with no payment and no trial, in the apps and on the website. The free questions are for one class a day per person in total: changing the class on the profile does not add more that day. The full chapter-wise quizzes need a subscription. We may change or end the free daily quizzes at any time.
  • Android app: purchases are made through Google Play and are also governed by Google Play's terms. Google processes the payment. Manage or cancel them in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions.
  • Website and Windows app: payments are processed by Razorpay through a recurring mandate (UPI AutoPay, card or eMandate). Cancel in My subscriptions on doon.guru (and, for UPI, also in your UPI app if you wish).
  • We never see or store your full card, bank or UPI details.
  • Access to a paid course lasts while the subscription is paid. If a renewal fails or a payment is reversed, access ends at the end of the paid period (plus any short grace period we allow).
  • Price changes: we may change prices for future periods. We will tell you before a higher price applies to your subscription, and you may cancel before it does. Google Play may also ask for your agreement to a higher price.
  • Cancellation and refunds are covered by the Refund and Cancellation Policy.

5A. Help credits

  • What they are. Help credits are prepaid units you can buy in packs to use the Help assistant beyond what is included. They can only be used for Help answers on Doon GURU. They are not money, have no cash value, cannot be exchanged, withdrawn or transferred to another account, and are not a deposit or a wallet balance.
  • Answer modes. Help offers answer modes (for example Quick, Smart and Expert). Each mode shows its price in credits per answer before you send your question, and that is the most you are charged for the answer. Quick answers are free up to your monthly Help allowance (section 10). If an answer fails or is not delivered, no credits are taken. "Explain my mistakes" never uses credits.
  • Prices. Packs are priced in Indian rupees and include GST. We may change the price of packs and the number of credits an answer costs; a change applies to purchases and answers after it is shown, never to credits you have already bought.
  • Validity. Credits are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and are used oldest first. Unused credits expire after 12 months and cannot be restored.
  • Buying. In the Android app, credits are bought through Google Play; on doon.guru and in the Windows app, through Razorpay (a one-time payment, not a subscription). A student may buy credits worth up to the monthly limit shown at purchase (currently ₹1,000 a month across all channels).
  • Refunds. Credits are not refundable except as the Refund and Cancellation Policy provides (for example, a wrong charge). If a purchase is refunded or reversed, the unused credits of that pack are removed; if some of them were already used, paid answer modes stay unavailable until a later purchase covers them.
  • Closing your account. Credits belong to your account only. When the account is deleted, any remaining credits end and are not refunded. If we stop offering Help credits, we will give at least 30 days' notice, and refund unused, unexpired credits bought in the 12 months before, pro rata, on request.
  • Parents and guardians. If you are under 18, buy credits only with your parent's or guardian's permission; a purchase made with their payment method confirms it.
  • Misuse. Using bugs, other people's payment methods or accounts, or reversed payments to obtain credits is misuse (section 6) and the credits may be removed.

5B. Invite rewards

  • How it works. You can invite friends with your invite link or code. When a friend who is new to Doon GURU joins with it (through the link, or by typing the code within 7 days of joining) and then finishes a daily quiz on 3 different days within 30 days, you and your friend each get the number of Help credits shown with the invite (currently 5).
  • Limits. One invite code per new account. You can earn the reward for at most 10 friends a calendar month (your friends still get theirs). Credits from invites are Help credits under section 5A (12 months' validity, no cash value) and are never paid out as money.
  • No reward when the friend's email address or app install has been used with another Doon GURU account before, when it is your own account, mailbox or device, or when we find other misuse (section 6); we may remove credits obtained that way.
  • We may change or end invite rewards at any time; rewards already given stay with the accounts.

5C. Access cards and access codes

  • What they are. A Doon GURU access code is a one-time code that opens part of the Service for a fixed period. It may be printed on a card (with a scratch panel) or sent to you another way, for example by WhatsApp, SMS or email, or through your school. These rules apply in the same way however the code reached you.
  • What a code gives. Each code gives either the pass of one class (all subjects of that class) or one named course, for the period stated with it (a number of days, weeks or months), from the day it is used. What it gives and for how long is shown on the card or with the code, and again on the confirmation page before you use it. It does not renew automatically and nothing more is charged.
  • Kinds of cards. Cards may be sold in shops, bought as gift cards to give to someone, or given free of charge (complimentary), for example as prizes, at schools or in promotions. A complimentary card is marked "FREE · Not for sale" and must not be sold. A gift or complimentary card may carry a short message from the giver.
  • Using a code. Sign in on doon.guru, open doon.guru/redeem and type the code. Each code works once, for one account. If that account already has access to the same class pass or course from an earlier code, the new period is added on. If you already have that access with no end date, the code is not needed and is not used up. Use the code by its "redeem by" date; after that date it no longer works.
  • Price and sellers. The price of a card for sale or a gift card (MRP, GST included) is printed on it; no one may charge more. Shops, schools and others who sell or hand out cards do so for us but cannot change the Service, give access or handle support: write to us for help.
  • No refunds and no replacements for a code once it has been revealed or used, or for a lost or stolen card or code, except where it is faulty (for example a code we cannot accept that was never used); then we replace it or, for a card that was paid for, refund the price paid, on proof of purchase. Codes have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money. Complimentary cards have no price and nothing is refunded for them.
  • Keep the code secret. Anyone who sees the code can use it. Codes from a stock reported lost or stolen, not paid for, or given out by mistake may be switched off before they are used.
  • If you already pay for the same class pass or course by subscription, the code's period runs at the same time; you may keep the code and use it after cancelling the subscription.

6. Fair use: what you must not do

The question bank is our main asset and is licensed to you only for your own study. You must not:

  • copy, screenshot, photograph, screen-record, download, export, scrape or otherwise collect questions, answers or explanations, or publish, share, sell or distribute them in any form, including to other students, coaching centres, websites, social media or AI tools;
  • use bots, scripts, automated tools or "answer helpers", or access the Service other than through our website and apps;
  • bypass, disable or interfere with any limit or security feature (for example, daily limits, free-trial limits, device limits, integrity checks or copy protection), or decompile, modify or reverse-engineer the apps;
  • share, rent or resell accounts or subscriptions, or let more than one student use an account;
  • attack, overload or probe the Service, or try to access accounts or data that are not yours;
  • upload or send anything unlawful, abusive, obscene, defamatory, harmful to minors, or infringing anyone's rights, or impersonate anyone;
  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in breach of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it.

We may monitor use for these purposes (for example, unusual answering speed or volume) and may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, without refund for the period of the breach. Serious breaches, such as copying the question bank, may also lead to legal action.

7. Our content and intellectual property

  • The Service, its questions, answers, explanations, daily sets, software, design and the name and logo "Doon GURU" belong to Doon Guru or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws.
  • We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial study while your account is in good standing. No other right is granted.
  • Names of boards, books and organisations (for example CBSE or NCERT) are used only to describe the syllabus a course covers. See the Disclaimer.
  • If you believe any content infringes your rights, write to hello@doon.guru with details. We will review it and remove infringing content promptly.

8. What you send us

When you report a mistake in a question or send us feedback, you allow us to use it, free of charge, to improve the Service. Do not send personal information of other people.

9. Third-party services

The Service uses third-party services such as Google (sign-in, Google Play, email), Razorpay (payments) and Microsoft (Microsoft Store). Their own terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them. We are not responsible for their services, outages or decisions, for example a payment declined by your bank, or a refund decided by Google.

10. Disclaimers

Help assistant. The Help tab in the app is an automated assistant built on a language model. Its answers are guidance to help you use Doon GURU and understand questions you have already answered; they are not official, can be wrong, and are not a substitute for your teacher or textbook. Do not share passwords, one-time codes, phone numbers or payment details with it. If you are under 18, use it with your parent's or guardian's knowledge. Each account has a monthly Help allowance (larger with a paid subscription) for Quick answers; when it is used up, Help answers common questions from saved answers, and Help credits (section 5A) can be used for more. The allowance renews on the first day of each month and is not money or credits. We may limit or pause the assistant at any time.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". It is a practice and self-assessment aid, not a substitute for school teaching, and it does not guarantee any marks, rank, result or admission. Questions and answers are prepared with care but may contain errors. The Disclaimer explains this further and forms part of these Terms.

11. Limitation of liability

  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss. This includes loss of marks, results, admission, opportunity, data, time or goodwill arising from the Service, from errors in content, or from the Service being unavailable.
  • Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the three (3) months before the event giving rise to the claim.
  • Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability, or any right you have, that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

12. Indemnity

You (and, for a child, the parent or guardian) agree to compensate us for any loss, claim or cost, including reasonable legal fees, caused by your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your infringement of anyone's rights.

13. Suspension and closing your account

  • You may stop using the Service at any time and ask us to delete your account (in the app: Delete my account; or write to us). Cancel paid subscriptions first: deleting the account cancels Razorpay subscriptions, but Google Play subscriptions must be cancelled in Google Play. Any remaining Help credits end when the account is deleted (section 5A).
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or the law, or if required by law, or if we stop offering the Service (in that case any unused paid period will be refunded pro rata).

14. Events outside our control

We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. These include power, internet or hosting failures, failures of Google, Razorpay or Microsoft, cyber attacks, natural disasters, epidemics, government action or strikes.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will publish the new version on doon.guru and, for important changes, ask you to agree again when you next sign in. If you do not agree to the new version, stop using the Service and cancel any subscription.

16. Law, disputes and complaints

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of India.
  • Please first contact our Grievance Officer (section 17). We will try to resolve any complaint within 30 days.
  • Subject to your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 to approach a Consumer Commission, the courts at Dehradun, Uttarakhand have exclusive jurisdiction.

17. Grievance Officer and contact

In line with the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023:

Aseem Misra, Grievance Officer, Doon Guru, Dehradun, Uttarakhand 248003, India. Email: hello@doon.guru.

We acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and aim to resolve them within 30 days.

18. General

If any part of these Terms is found invalid, the rest remains in force. If we do not enforce a right, we have not waived it. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours to a successor of the Service, who will be bound by them. These Terms, with the policies named in section 2, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.

3. Why we use it

  • To provide the Service: your account and sign-in, courses, daily sets, quizzes, scores and progress, certificates, and support.
  • Subscriptions and payments: confirming purchases, renewals, cancellations and refunds, and giving or ending access.
  • Help credits and allowance: adding credits you buy, charging the price shown for each Help answer, applying the monthly allowance, expiry after 12 months, removing credits after a refund, and keeping the records tax law requires.
  • Invite rewards: your invite code, which new students joined with it (or whose code you used), whether they practised on enough days and whether the reward was given, so that we can give the Help credits (Terms, section 5B) and stop misuse (for example, checking that the friend's email address or app install was not used before, using the free-trial record below). Your friend's account is not shown to you, only how many friends joined and were rewarded.
  • Protecting the Service and the question bank: security, preventing fraud, account sharing and copying (device and sign-in limits, app integrity checks, unusual-use checks), and fixing errors.
  • Service messages: emails about your account, password, subscription or important changes. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
  • Legal duties: tax (GST) and accounting records, responding to lawful requests from authorities, and handling complaints and disputes.
  • Improving the Service using totals and statistics (for example, how many students answered a question correctly). These do not identify you.

We process your data with your consent (given when you, or your parent or guardian, accept this policy) and, where the law allows, for legitimate uses such as legal compliance. You may withdraw consent at any time (section 8). Withdrawing does not affect processing already done, and we cannot provide the Service without the data needed for it.

4. Children

  • Most of our users are school students under 18. A child may use the Service only with the verifiable consent of a parent or lawful guardian, who accepts this policy for the child. A purchase made with the parent's or guardian's payment method also confirms that consent.
  • We use a child's data only to provide the Service to that child. We do not show advertising, do not carry out tracking or behavioural monitoring for advertising, do not build marketing profiles, and do not sell or rent children's data.
  • A parent or guardian may at any time ask to see, correct or delete their child's data, or withdraw consent, by writing to hello@doon.guru. We may ask for reasonable proof that you are the parent or guardian.
  • If we learn that we hold a child's data without such consent, we will delete it or ask for consent.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data. We share it only as follows:

  • Service providers that process data for us:
    • Google: Google sign-in, Google Play billing and integrity checks, and the Google Workspace email we use to send messages.
    • Razorpay Software Pvt. Ltd.: website and Windows payments.
    • Anthropic, PBC (USA): the language model behind the Help assistant. It receives the conversation and the data listed under "Help assistant" above, keeps API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring and does not use it to train its models.
    • Microsoft: distribution of the Windows app through the Microsoft Store.
    Each receives only what it needs, and their own privacy policies also apply.
  • Your teachers and our staff see your name, profile and results in the courses you take, to run and support the courses. Other students cannot see your profile details.
  • Your school, if you join it with a school code: joining saves your class, school name and section on your profile, and the teachers of your section and your principal then see, in a school report and a weekly email, your name, the days you practised, your streak, how many daily quizzes you finished and your scores, and the topics your section finds hardest. They do not see your email address, phone number or Help conversations. You choose to join; you can leave by asking us, or by joining another section.
  • Authorities, when required by law, a court order or a lawful government request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users or the public.
  • A successor to the Service, if it is transferred. The successor remains bound by this policy.

6. Where it is stored and how it is protected

  • Our servers and backups are located in India. Google, Razorpay and Microsoft may process data in other countries, under their own safeguards and as Indian law permits.
  • We protect data with encrypted connections (HTTPS), a web application firewall, access controls and multi-factor sign-in for administrators, hashed passwords, and encrypted backups.
  • No system is perfectly secure. If a personal data breach occurs, we will inform the Data Protection Board of India and affected users as the law requires.

7. How long we keep it

Help assistant conversations are kept for as long as your account exists, together with the quiz and practice records they refer to. Explanations of questions and rewritten common answers are kept without any link to you. When your account is deleted, your conversations are deleted at once and your quiz and practice records are kept only as anonymised statistics that cannot be linked to you.

  • Account, profile and learning data: while your account exists. When you delete your account (in the app: Delete my account, or by writing to us), we delete it within 30 days, except as below.
  • Activity and security logs: generally up to 12 months.
  • Invite records: while both accounts exist; deleted with either account.
  • Access cards and codes: which card or code (its serial number) your account used, when, what it gave and until when, kept with our sales records. When your account is deleted, the link to your account is removed and the card stays in the sales record without it. We do not learn who bought a card in a shop. When someone buys gift cards or receives complimentary cards from us directly (for example a parent, school or company), we keep the name and contact details they give us, and any message printed on the cards, with our sales and invoice records for as long as tax and accounting laws require.
  • Payment, invoice and tax records, including Help credits purchases and how credits were used: for as long as tax and accounting laws require (currently up to 8 years). When your account is deleted, these records are kept without your name or account link, and any remaining credits end.
  • Free-trial record: to stop the same person getting new free trials by deleting and re-creating an account (Terms, free trials), we keep, for 12 months after a free trial was last in use, the courses where it was used together with a one-way code made from your email address and from the app's random identifier. The code cannot be turned back into your email address, holds no name and no account link, and is used for nothing else. It is also kept when your account is deleted.
  • Backups: deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 24 months. These are kept only to recover from a disaster. If a backup is ever restored, data deleted earlier is deleted again.
  • Accounts with no sign-in for 3 years may be deleted after notice by email.

8. Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you (or, for a child, the parent or guardian) may:

  • get a summary of your personal data and how it is used, and of whom it is shared with;
  • correct, complete or update it (much of your profile can be edited on doon.guru);
  • have it erased, when it is no longer needed or you withdraw consent;
  • withdraw consent at any time;
  • nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or are unable to;
  • complain to our Grievance Officer, and then, if not satisfied, to the Data Protection Board of India.

To make a request, use the data request option on doon.guru (Profile → Data requests), use Delete my account in the app, or email hello@doon.guru. We may need to confirm your identity. We acknowledge requests within 48 hours and respond within 30 days.

9. Cookies and app storage

doon.guru uses only cookies needed for the Service to work, such as the session cookie that keeps you signed in and security cookies. We use no advertising or analytics cookies and no third-party trackers. The apps store your sign-in and settings on your device, and may download course content for offline use. All of this is removed when you sign out of or uninstall the app.

10. Notifications and permissions

The apps may ask permission to show notifications, for example a daily practice reminder created on your device. Any other permission is used only when you choose a feature that needs it. You can turn permissions off in your device settings.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy and will publish the new version on doon.guru. For important changes, we will ask you to accept it again when you next sign in.

12. Contact and Grievance Officer

Aseem Misra, Grievance Officer, Doon Guru, Dehradun, Uttarakhand 248003, India. Email: hello@doon.guru.

1. Cancelling

  • You can cancel at any time. Cancelling stops future renewals. Access continues until the end of the period already paid for, and then ends.
  • Bought in the Android app (Google Play): open Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Doon GURU → Cancel. Uninstalling the app or deleting your Doon GURU account does not cancel a Google Play subscription.
  • Bought on doon.guru or in the Windows app (Razorpay): on doon.guru, open your profile → My subscriptions → Cancel. A UPI AutoPay mandate can also be cancelled in your UPI app. Deleting your Doon GURU account also cancels these subscriptions.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. A charge already being processed by your bank or Google when you cancel may still complete. If it does, it pays for that period.

2. Refunds

Because access to the full course starts immediately, payments for a period that has started are not refundable, including first-month offer payments and partly used periods. We give a refund in these cases:

  • Wrong charges: a duplicate payment, a charge after a cancellation you completed in time, or a charge of the wrong amount. We refund the wrong amount in full.
  • Access faults: you paid but could not use the course because of a fault on our side that we could not fix within 7 days of your report. We refund that period's payment.
  • Course withdrawn: if we stop offering a course you have paid for, we refund the unused part of the paid period, pro rata.
  • Where the law requires a refund.

No refund is due for: changing your mind; not using the Service; problems with your own device, internet connection, or a modified or rooted device; suspension for breaking the Terms of Use (for example, sharing an account or copying questions); or the daily limits, app-only quizzes and device limits described in the Terms.

2A. Help credits

  • Help credits are a one-time purchase; there is nothing to cancel. Credits that have been added to your account are not refundable, used or unused, except in these cases: a wrong charge (for example a double payment, or a payment for which no credits were added within 24 hours and we cannot add them), a fault on our side that stopped you using credits you paid for and that we could not fix within 7 days, or where the law requires.
  • No credits are taken for an answer that failed or was not delivered, so no refund is needed for those.
  • When a credits purchase is refunded (by us, by Google Play or through your bank), the unused credits of that pack are removed from your account. Credits already used from it are counted against later purchases.
  • Expired credits (older than 12 months) and credits remaining when an account is deleted are not refunded. If we stop offering Help credits, see section 5A of the Terms of Use.

3. How to ask for a refund

  • Email hello@doon.guru within 30 days of the charge, with your username or email, the course or credits pack, the date and amount, and the payment reference (Google Play order number beginning "GPA.", or the Razorpay payment ID).
  • We acknowledge your request within 48 hours and decide within 7 working days.
  • Approved Razorpay refunds go back to the original payment method, usually within 5–7 working days. Timing depends on your bank.
  • Google Play purchases: Google also handles refund requests under its own policy (Google Play → Order history → Request a refund). Within 48 hours of a purchase, Google may decide refunds itself. If Google refunds a purchase, access to that period ends.
  • If a refund is given, access for the refunded period ends. A refunded first-month offer cannot be used again.

4. Chargebacks

Please contact us before disputing a charge with your bank. Most problems can be solved quickly. Access may be suspended while a chargeback or payment dispute is open.
